A retired US Marine who fell ill to coronavirus thanked his New Hampshire hospital staff after recovering.
Spending 13 days at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Alex Melo has since made a recovery and is going about his life.
On the day of his discharge however, he was surprised as he began to depart the hospital.
Lining the hallways that led to the hospital’s exit, staff members cheered Melo as he prepared to leave.
“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the work that you have done, for sacrificing your time, your life to be on the front line,” Melo told the workers.
According to WHDH, Melo was given what is known as the “honor walk,” and the staff of the hospital had become quite fond of him.
“So many of our employees were touched by Alex’s COVID-19 fight and subsequent recovery,” the hospital wrote on their FB page.
