A US Congressman and Marine veteran from California admitted to taking a photo with a dead enemy combatant during wartime, offering solidarity with a Navy SEAL charged in a similar incident.

Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter has demanded a pardon for Edward Gallagher, a US Navy SEAL charged with stabbing a teenage ISIS fighter with a “hunting knife” and re-enlisting over the insurgent’s corpse.

While Hunter did not go as far as Gallagher, he admitted to posing next to a dead combatant.

“A lot of us have done the exact same thing,” Hunter said as he condemned what he called a “corrupt” military justice system that seems adamant on punishing “warfighters.”

Hunter is one of several Republican lawmakers who want to see Gallagher released, and President Donald J. Trump -who got the SEAL moved from the brig to a military hospital- is also considering a pardon.

According to Time, Hunter and his wife, Margaret Hunter, have plead not guilty to charges filed against them in 2017, accusing them of converting more than $250,000 in campaign contributions for personal use.
