A US Marine corporal was shot and killed by a fellow Marine at an airbase in South Carolina Friday night.

21-year-old Corporal Tyler Wallingford was fatally shot around 9:30 PM last Friday at Marine Air Corps Station Beaufort.

Wallingford was a member of Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501, which consists of 20 F-35B Lightning II aircraft.

According to WGME, Wallingford also served as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Standish, Maine.

Corporal Spencer Daily is currently in custody and is believed to be Wallingford’s killer. The motive is currently unknown.

Wallingford and Daily served in the same squadron, and were friends on Facebook prior to the murder.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is currently investigating the murder.
