Four people were killed when a car slammed into the back of a tanker truck on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey early Wednesday.
The tragic accident took place at about 2:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Toms River. It may have happened in an acceleration lane where vehicles merge onto the highway, according to the Asbury Park Press.
The car was driven by 21-year-old Kevin Quispe-Prieto of Beachwood, according to authorities. Quispe-Prieto and Jimmy Quispe-Prieto, Robert Ordenana and Victor Lugo were all pronounced dead at the scene.
Jimmy Quispe-Prieto and Ordenana were both 23 and Lugo was 24. All hailed from Lakewood, N.J.
Kevin and Jimmy Quispe-Prieto were brothers.
The tanker truck driver was not seriously injured, according to the New Jersey State Police. It was not clear if the tanker was moving at the time.
Some lanes of the highway were shut down following the crash, causing travel delays.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. It was the deadliest motor accident in the state this year.
