A Marine from Colorado will be posthumously honored this week with the dedication of a building in his honor.

The Multi-Purpose Canine kennel aboard Stone Bay will be named Monday for Cpl. David M. , a military working dog handler with 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion who was killed during his second combat deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

and his military dog Flex — as well as Staff Sgt. Eric D. Christian — were killed in action May 4, 2013, while conducting combat operations in Farah province, Afghanistan.

U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command will posthumously dedicate the building during a ceremony Monday morning at Stone Bay.

, who was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, joined the Marine Corps in August 2008 and graduated recruit training in November of 2008. He attended Military Police School in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon graduation he attended the Military Working Dog Handler Basic Course in Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

From July 2009 to March 2012, he was assigned to III Marine Expeditionary Force K-9 Section at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California, and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. was then assigned to Marine Special Operations Combat Support Battalion, Marine Special Operations Support Group at Camp Lejeune. While there, he completed Special Operations Training Course, and Multi-Purpose Canine Course Phase I and Phase II. He then attached to 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion as a Multi-Purpose Canine Handler.

personal decorations include the Purple Heart Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and a Combat Action Ribbon.
